A request for a “green certificate” can conceal several different requirements. Before comparing fees or timelines, ask what is actually being assessed and why the customer needs that evidence.
Product or facility?
GreenPro is CII’s ecolabelling pathway using the applicable product or service category standard. GreenCo assesses a company unit or facility’s environmental performance. The evidence boundary and assessment purpose differ.
Five questions for the internal team
- What exact wording appears in the tender, buyer request or specification?
- Does it identify a named scheme or accept alternative evidence?
- Is the scope one product family, a manufacturing location or a whole facility?
- Which test reports and operating records are already available?
- Who will own data, technical clarifications and improvement actions?
Define evidence before commissioning tests
Map each proposed test or record to a specific requirement and scope. Clarify the intended product family, location, test method and reporting basis before incurring laboratory charges. For a facility exercise, reconcile reporting periods and data boundaries first.
Keep the quotation transparent
Separate consultancy, laboratory work, travel and scheme-assessment charges. Ask what is included, which assumptions affect the scope and what depends on the applicant’s internal team. A credible proposal explains dependencies instead of guaranteeing approval.
